If they have a dental emergency, its very important to call and schedule an appointment right away. If your child has a dental emergency, our team is always here to help in the safest but most ensuring way. There are some guidelines you should follow just in case an emergency happens and you need assistance.

Bitten Lip or Tongue

If your child has bitten their lip or tongue which causes it enough to bleed, you must clean the bite gently with water and use a cold compress like a wet towel or washcloth pressed on the area to reduce bleeding and to avoid swelling. Please contact our office to help determine how serious the would is.

Broken, Chipped, or Fractured Tooth

If your child has chipped or fractured tooth. Please save the tooth fragment that broke off and contact our office immediately.

Object Caught In Teeth

If your child has an object stuck in their teeth, you should use dental floss to gently remove it. Please never use metal, plastic or sharp tools to remove the object. If you cannot remove the item with floss, please contact our office.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If your child’s tooth has been knocked out accidentally, please rinse the tooth with water (no soap), and only touch the crown of the tooth (the part you can see when it is in the mouth). Place the tooth in a clean container with milk and contact our office immediately. You might be able to save the tooth if you act quickly enough.

Loose Tooth

If you notice your child has a loose tooth, you should consider getting it removed to avoid it being swallowed or inhaled as a possible choking hazard.

Toothache

If you notice your child complaining of a tooth ache, please rinse their mouth with warm water and to double check that there is no food caught between them. If the pain continues to persist, use a cold compress to ease up the pain. It’s required you DO NOT apply heat or any kind of aspirin or topical pain reliver directly to the area, which can cause damage to the gums. Pain relievers for children can be taken orally. Please schedule an appointment immediately.

Broken Jaw

If you notice your child has a broken jaw, you can use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Please head to the hospital immediately. In various cases, a broken jaw it the result of a blow to the head. If they were in contact of severe blows to the head it can be dangerous and even fatal.

Avoiding Injury

It’s best to help your child avoid dental emergencies. It’s always helpful to child proof your house in case they fall. Please keep ice, popcorn kernels and other hard foods away from your child. Always remember to use car seats for young children and require seatbelts for the other children. If they play in sports, its recommended to use a mouth guard to protect their mouths. Our office can talk with you to create a custom- fitted mouthguard for your child. Lastly, to prevent any tooth issues, always do regular brushing, flossing and regular visits to our office.
